I love the smell of pancakes in the morning…

Every morning, I seem to sleep past breakfast. Thankfully, the hostel I am staying at has a cafe that is open all day. So I climb up to the rooftop, find a seat in the sun, and eat some peace sign pancakes.

I know this is not a typical Vietnamese breakfast, but it’s quick and it’s good. Plus, they substitute syrup here for chocolate sauce!

After breakfast I decide to explore Da Lat. It’s my first day here, so I want to get my bearings. It is also the first day in the last 4 that I am not jet lagged, so I feel pretty good. There are not as many vendors on the street as there were in Saigon. Da Lat is much quieter.

I stop at An Cafe, a pretty spot that feels more like a garden than a restaurant. I sit down at the table, which has a swing for a seat. Kind of cool. I decide to have a Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk.

After my coffee I walk around Xuan Huong Lake. There are horses all around the lake, hanging out in the sun, sniffing the flowers. What a life. They also have lots of kayaks, but I’m too tired to paddle a boat.

In the middle of the lake I find a garden. Da Lat is called the “city of eternal Spring” because of its beautiful gardens. I snap some photos and stop at a nearby restaurant for noodles and beef. I have been eating nothing but noodles for the past week.

After the lake I head back to my hostel for some zen time. Everyone is hanging out on the rooftop drinking cantaloupe juice, so I order one.

The juice is made of cantaloupe, ice, and milk.

Mr. Peace Backpacker’s Hostel is nice and social. Soon my cantaloupe juice turns into a couple of Saigon Beers.

Beer is cheaper than water here…

We eat family dinner at 7:30, which about 25 people show up for.
